Certificate in Translation

(distance learning for a fee)

Requirements:
1. graduation from the Master’s programme in English Philology
2. completion of the Translation courses at the English Department above the level of studies (16 credits) along with the course KAA/ČJTR
3. defense of a written work (5 credits)
4. successful completion of the final translation exam

1. GRADUATION FROM THE MASTER’S PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH PHILOLOGY
Master’s Single Subject or Double Subject programme in English Philology at KAA FF UP in Olomouc to the full extent.

2. TRANSLATION COURSES AT THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
The final translation exam for the Certificate in Translation is taken by students after receiving 16 credits in specialised courses at the department (see the pdf document below). Students interested in the certificate must obtain these 16 credits above the level of the 120 credits needed for graduation from the Master’s programme. The students will not have these completed courses listed in their Diploma Supplement. Another obligatory course is KAA/ČJTR, (Czech for Translators) which can be passed as part of the Master’s programme as a B course (which would be then listed in the Diploma Supplement).

3. WRITTEN WORK FOR THE CERTIFICATE IN TRANSLATION

The defense of the written work is worth 5 credits. Requirements for the format of the written work for the Certificate of Translation (pdf).

4. FINAL TRANSLATION EXAM

The prerequisite for passing the final exam consists of 16 credits in specialised courses of the English Department (see the table in the pdf document above). The written work must be defended before the final exam. The question topics for the final translation exam are here (pdf).
